Volunteers welcome
The Jeff Davis County Library always needs volunteers to help with programs and events. Please call or stop by for an application.
Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library
The Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library provide critical financial, volunteer, and outreach support to the library. The Friends operate Secondhand Prose, a second-hand book shop where -- in exchange for a requested (but not required) donation -- patrons and visitors can pick up good quality books. The money raised from Secondhand Prose is funneled back into the library's collection development program, helping to pay for new books and DVDs.
Through other fundraisers and grant writing efforts, the Friends played a critical role in the 2024 transformation project that allowed the library to replace its shelving and furniture, as well as to undertake some much-needed maintenance of the historic building.
The Friends also arrange for authors to visit the library to talk about their work, organize an annual Christmas concert at the library, hold semi-regular teas, provide much-needed scholarships to local youth, and pay for Watercolor, Senior Fitness, and Children's Story Time-related expenses.
Donations of books, audiobooks & DVDs in good condition are welcome. Please bring them to the front desk at the library. Because the FJDCL is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, your donation may be tax deductible. Please ask for a receipt upon making your donation.
There is a separate tab on the Library's main menu page where you can learn more about the Friends. You can access that tab here: Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library tab
